بے عملی سے قوموں کی تقدیر بدلتی نہیں
کوشش کرے بغیر کوئی بھی منزل ملتی نہیں
Be amli se qaumon ki taqdeer badalti nahi
Koshish kare baghair koi bhi manzil milti nahi
ہم ایسی کل کتابیں قابلِ ضبطی سمجھتے ہیں
کہ جن کو پڑھ کے لڑکے باپ کو خبطی سمجھتے ہیں
Hum aisi kal kitaben qabil-e-zabti samajhte hain
Ke jin ko parh ke ladke baap ko khabti samajhte hain
قرض کی پیتے تھے مے لیکن سمجھتے تھے کہ ہاں
رنگ لائے گی ہماری فاقہ مستی ایک دن
Qarz ki peete the mai lekin samajhte the ke haan
Rang layegi hamari faqa masti ek din
مغرب کی ہوا میں ہے مشرق کا دم گھٹتا
یہ دورِ نیا ہے، پر انسان وہی پرانا

Ye daur-e-naya hai, par insaan wahi purana
ترقی کے نام پر اقدار کو بیچ آئے
سودا بہت سستا تھا، قیمت بہت بھاری تھی
Taraqqi ke naam par aqdar ko bech aaye
Sauda bohot sasta tha, qeemat bohot bhaari thi
نہ مذہب رہا محفوظ، نہ تہذیب بچی
ہم نے تقلید میں اپنی ہی بنیاد ہلا دی
Na mazhab raha mehfooz, na tahzeeb bachi
Hum ne taqleed mein apni hi buniyad hila di
کہتے ہیں ہمیں عقل نئی چاہیے صاحب
پر سوچ وہی ہے جو صدیوں پرانی ہو
Kehte hain humein aqal nai chahiye sahib
Par soch wahi hai jo sadiyon purani ho
عمل سے زندگی بنتی ہے جنت بھی جہنم بھی
یہ خاکی اپنی فطرت میں نہ نوری ہے نہ ناری ہے
Amal se zindagi banti hai jannat bhi jahannum bhi
Ye khaki apni fitrat mein na nuri hai na naari hai
زبان بدلی، لباس بدلا، خیال بھی بدل ڈالے
مگر انسان بننے کا ہنر سیکھا نہیں ہم نے
Zaban badli, libas badla, khayal bhi badal dalay
Magar insaan ban’ne ka hunar seekha nahi hum ne
سبق پھر پڑھ صداقت کا، عدالت کا، شرافت کا
لیا جائے گا تجھ سے کام دنیا کی سیاست کا
Sabaq phir parh sidqat ka, adalat ka, sharafat ka
Liyaa jayega tujh se kaam duniya ki siyasat ka

Jo taqleed mein jeeyen woh khudi kya jaanain
Apni pehchaan ko khud apne haathon mitay
زمانہ کہہ رہا ہے ہم بدل جائیں
ہم کہتے ہیں ذرا سوچ بدلنے دیجیے
Zamana keh raha hai hum badal jaain
Hum kehte hain zara soch badalne dijiye
نئی تہذیب کا چرچا تو بہت ہے لیکن
آدمیت کا کہیں ذکر نہیں ملتا
Nai tahzeeb ka charcha to bohot hai lekin
Aadmit ka kahin zikr nahi milta
یہ علم، یہ حکمت، یہ تہذیب، یہ فن
یہ سب مغرب سے لیے، دل مگر خالی رہا
Ye ilm, ye hikmat, ye tahzeeb, ye fun
Ye sab maghrib se liye, dil magar khaali raha
اصولوں پر جو قائم ہو وہی زندہ ہے قوم
باقی سب وقت کی موجوں میں بہہ جاتے ہیں
Usoolon par jo qaim ho wohi zinda hai qaum
Baaki sab waqt ki maujon mein beh jaate hain
ہم نے آئین بدل ڈالے، کتابیں بھی بدل دیں
نہ بدلی تو فقط اپنی ہی نیت نہ بدلی
Hum ne aaeen badal dalay, kitaben bhi badal di
Na badli to faqat apni hi niyat na badli
سبق ملا نہ ہمیں گردشِ ایام سے
ہم آج بھی وہیں ہیں جہاں کل تھے کھڑے
Sabaq mila na humein gardish-e-ayam se
Hum aaj bhi wahin hain jahan kal thay khade
مغرب کی چمک دمک نے آنکھیں چندھیا دیں
ہم بھول گئے اپنا ہی سورج کہاں ہے
Maghrib ki chamak damak ne aankhein chandhya di
Hum bhool gaye apna hi sooraj kahan hai
کہاں تک نقل کریں گے غیروں کے انداز
ایک دن خود سے بھی نظریں ملانی ہوں گی
Kahan tak naqal karein ge ghairon ke andaaz
Ek din khud se bhi nazrein milani hongi
